Independent Black Media for Collective Liberation
In the Wake TV is an action-oriented streaming platform and worker-owned cooperative centering Black life and building digital equity infrastructure for collective liberation.
Our mission
Rooted in anti-colonial, anti-capitalist, and community-ownership principles, we challenge corporate media monopolies and bridge the digital divide through authentic storytelling. We stand in solidarity with Native struggles, Indigenous media sovereignty, and all communities fighting for digital access and cultural representation.
Services
Our Work
We operate across digital and physical spaces—streaming platforms, community screenings, virtual events—redefining them as sites of resistance, cultural celebration, and collective power.
Original Content Production
Documentaries, news, live events centering Black and marginalized voices. We produce cultural programming that challenges dominant narratives and centers the stories mainstream media erases.
Digital Equity Partnerships
Supporting tribal radio, Black churches, libraries, and community organizations as digital access hubs. We optimize for mobile-first streaming and low-bandwidth access because internet access is a justice issue.
Community Infrastructure
Building worker-owned, cooperative media as an alternative to extractive corporate platforms. We create spaces for gathering, learning, and organizing—redefining digital platforms as sites of resistance.
Benefits
What We Stand For
We support digital equity. We center Black life. We stand in solidarity with all movements for media justice and decolonization.
Digital Equity Infrastructure
We bridge the digital divide through accessible streaming for urban, rural, and underserved communities. We partner with grassroots organizations to ensure media access is recognized as a human right.
Solidarity with Native Struggles
We support Indigenous media sovereignty and stand with Native communities fighting for broadband access, cultural preservation, and self-determination. We amplify Indigenous voices and honor tribal storytelling traditions.
Worker-Owned Cooperative
Our team members are owners. We reject extractive corporate models and build infrastructure for collective economic power within Black and marginalized communities. We operate for liberation, not profit.
About Us
Built by Black Creators, For Collective Liberation
Founded by award-winning producer Jamara Wakefield, In the Wake Media was born from a commitment to media justice and digital equity. As a worker-owned cooperative, we've built a streaming platform that centers Black life while standing in solidarity with Native communities and all movements fighting for cultural representation. From Newark to the diaspora, we create media that challenges corporate monopolies and builds community-owned alternatives. Every story we tell, every partnership we build, every subscriber who joins us is a step toward a media landscape rooted in collective liberation and cultural sovereignty.
